Bluetooth / Mobile Label Printing

Want to print labels on a computer? This isn't the article you're looking for

This article covers printing labels from the phone app / PDA over Bluetooth (or iOS network) directly to the printer. If you connect a printer from a PC / Mac, you go through PDF / system printer instead—see Thermal Label Printer Setup and Mac Printing Setup. The computer side does not use Bluetooth.

In the warehouse, showroom, or stall, you often need to print sample labels or fabric roll labels on the spot without opening a computer. The Jenny Fabric Software phone app and the PDA warehouse client support connecting directly to a label printer for on-site printing.

Mobile currently supports only one model: Dascom TL-332/333

Mobile printing on all three clients—the Android app, the iOS app, and the PDA warehouse client—currently supports only the "Dascom TL-332/333" label printer. Other models are not yet supported for direct mobile connection (the computer side supports a wider range of printers; see Thermal Label Printer Setup).

Capability overview

Start with this table for what each client can print and how it connects:

Pair in system Bluetooth first, then the app can see it

For Bluetooth clients (Android app, PDA, iOS Bluetooth mode), you must first pair the printer in the phone's / PDA's "System Bluetooth Settings" before the app can select it from the list of paired devices.

Important: test actual output first, confirm it's correct, then use it in bulk

The adaptation code for Dascom Bluetooth printing (Android / iOS / PDA) is ready, but we recommend testing actual output with the Dascom TL-332/333 first, confirming it's correct, and only then using it in bulk; if you need help with debugging, contact support. Please do not assume "plug and play"—different label paper sizes and different firmware batches may require a test print and adjustment first.

Android phone app

The Android app can print sample labels and fabric roll labels.

Sample labels

Sample labels are rendered into a bitmap on the backend at 300 DPI and then sent to the printer, so the result is pixel-for-pixel identical to the template in the computer's "Document / Label Editor"—the label you design on the PC prints exactly the same way on the phone.

Workflow:

  1. Go to the sample detail page, or prepare samples in the sample basket
  2. Tap "Connect Printer" to open the printer management page, then select and connect from the Dascom devices already paired in the system
  3. Choose a label template and label size—the template's built-in physical dimensions (mm) sync automatically, and you can also customize them manually
  4. Set the number of copies (1–99)
  5. Tap "Print"

Printing samples one at a time from the basket

In the sample basket, please trigger printing one sample at a time for now. For how to design label templates and configure data variables, see Label Printing Setup.

Fabric roll labels

When entering detailed yardage on a stock-in order, each yardage line can be printed directly as a single fabric roll label and attached to the corresponding roll. The label contains:

  • Product name / item number
  • Roll number / dye-lot number
  • Meters
  • QR code

iOS phone app

The iOS app can print sample labels and supports both Bluetooth and network printing, switchable under "Print Method" at the top of the print page.

Workflow:

  1. Open the Print Label page from the sample detail
  2. Under "Print Method" at the top, choose Bluetooth or Network
    • Bluetooth: connect a paired Dascom TL-332/333
    • Network: connect a network printer with a configured IP (see below)
  3. Choose a protocol—options are TSPL / CPCL / ESC-POS, default TSPL
  4. Choose a label template
  5. Tap "Print"

Bluetooth or network?

ComparisonNetwork (TCP:9100)Bluetooth
PairingNo pairing, just configure the printer IP onceMust pair in system Bluetooth first
Network requirementPrinter connected to the LAN (Ethernet / WiFi)No network needed
First-time authorizationMust allow "Local Network" permission on the iPhoneBluetooth connection on a real device
Best forFixed workstationMobile / no-network sites

Where to configure the network printer

On iOS, set the network printer IP once under "Company → Smart Hardware → Network Label Printer". For the entry point, see Enterprise Membership · App Market · Smart Hardware.

iOS network printing is officially supported

iOS network label printing (TCP:9100) was officially released with 1.0.7 and can be used with confidence; the network printer model is also tested against the Dascom TL-332/333.

PDA warehouse client

The Jenny PDA warehouse client is used to print fabric roll labels—attached to each roll, paired with scan-based stock in/out / find goods. The label carries a Code128 barcode (using the roll number first, or the item number when there is no roll number) for easy scan-based verification later.

Feature rolling out; confirm model compatibility with support

The PDA fabric roll label printing feature is still rolling out. Before using it, contact support to confirm compatibility with your printer model, and test actual output first.

Set up the printer first

  1. On the "Scan to Find Goods" page, tap the printer icon in the top bar
  2. Go to Printer Settings:
    • Select and connect from the Dascom devices already paired in the system
    • Tap "Print Test Label" to verify the connection
    • Set the label size (default 40 × 30mm, adjust to your actual label paper)

Don't see the printer?

If no device appears in the list, first pair the printer in the PDA's System Bluetooth Settings.

After setting up the printer, in the result list of Scan to Find Goods, each roll has a print button—tap it to print that roll's label.

About HPRT and other printers

Android app Bluetooth no longer supports HPRT

The Android app's Bluetooth printing currently supports only the Dascom TL-332/333, and App Bluetooth connection for HPRT and other models has been discontinued. If you have an HPRT or other-brand printer, switch to printing from the computer (PC / Mac); see Thermal Label Printer Setup.

The computer side (USB / network port / driver) supports a wider range of printer models—most mainstream thermal label printers are supported. For details, see Thermal Label Printer Setup and Mac Printing Setup.
